Perugia, the great "Arce Guelfa lies at the heart of the region, with 5 historic districts enclosed by walls Etruscan: huge bastions formed by ciclopici boulders, squared and put in place 22 centuries ago and still visible for long stretches.

When the city of Rome was little more than a camp of huts in Perugia Etruscan is entered by no less than 7 doors, including particularly impressive, Porta Pulchra or Augustus.
Entering from Porta San Pietro, rebuilt from outside Agostino di Duccio in 1475, meets to right the basilica of San Domenico; in the cloisters adjoining convent and was ordained the very important National Archaeological Museum of Umbria.
It can be reached then, the Piazza del Sopramuro, where align the fifteenth of the Old Palace, joined the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo; continuing, after a brief climb, opens one of the important squares of Italy: the Piazza Grande of Perugia (Piazza IV Novembre) a superb monumental complex which includes the Palazzo dei Priori, the Cathedral, and at the centre of the Fontana Maggiore 1200.
At the Corso Vannucci is a famous garden-lookout that was created above the basement of Rocca Paolina, namely the fortress built by Pope Paul III in 1540.
This base encompasses, like under a huge bell, an entire district of the old town, a dead city, a sort of Medieval Pompeii, which was called into light and that the visit is extremely fascinating.
The climbs and steps are usually steep or whether they go back to older remote both drawn in more recent epochs.
For example, the ramp Via delle Prome, starting dall'Arco of Augustus, leads to the highest point of the city, where stood the fortress Porta Sole erected in the fourteenth century by Gattapone and later destroyed a fury of the people.
Even the most fleeting visit to this centre of art in history and culture should not overlook the complex of St. Francis, and the Oratory of San Bernardino: Nelson masterpiece by Duccio, which ricoprendone the facade of bas of enchanting grace and finesse of modeled, made a small poem of Renaissance sculpture.
Among the most important events are organized in the city deserve no doubt about their musical festival of Umbria Jazz and gastronomic event of Eurochocolate.
