Umbria is a region on a human, a territory rich in natural beauty, but also of great and ancient civilization and vital enzymes, where past, present and future projections mix, harmonizing with no fracture. Just over 800000 inhabitants live on an area of 8456 sq km just right in the heart of Peninsular, distributed in 92 municipalities that make up the urban fabric of the region. The spread of settlements is balanced throughout the territory and population well distributed: no fact conurbations type metropolitan Perugia, the capital of the region, counts only 151 000 inhabitants but there are no plaghe abandoned and uninhabited. The short distances between cities, thanks to limited land, have facilitated links and contacts. The structure polycentric dell'insediamento territorial Umbrian has remote origins: in fact, the core engine of the region is a system of independent cities, stable and already firmly established in ancient times, anchored at access roads to land, trails, routes of conquest . No area in Italy submits such a stay and settlement between conservation and territory, between man and environment. This is an absolutely original appearance, made up of data cultural old and new who develop a continuous line between ancient times and modern times. It sees in the historical centres of the city, where you read events that have formed the foundations dell'insediamento territories: the passage of the Etruscans, Romans, training of municipal centres that have left traces everywhere, as in Perugia in Orvieto, Spello as a City of Castle. This is mystical architecture of Assisi, Todi, Gubbio.Si could say therefore that the Umbria is the whole city, thanks to the number of centres medium, small and minimum that the city have the character, united by the same historical elements - art, which up to our day emerge and develop seamless continuity. The charm of this stability ends up giving centres Umbrian an image of cultural stratification, where you recognize the roots pre-Roman, Roman and municipal age. Given then the relationship between man and environment, it is not possible to distinguish territorial, economic and demographic modeled on the geographical distribution of mountains, hills and plains: Even in this case the elements are integrated throughout history. The agricultural structures, in fact, were always modelled on the urban structure. Historically, then, the territorial organisation based on a mediated relationship between town and country, guaranteed by a knit balanced distribution of small and medium urban centres. Umbria recovered only marginally all phenomena disruptive, that economic development-industrial complex has resulted in other regions: the exodus from rural areas, the proliferation of suburbs. The industrial settlements of a certain weight are concentrated in Terni and Narni are steel-engineering-chemical, and have developed since the last quarter century. In the pole Perugia are represented large textile and food industries. Areas less prominent, but old industrial tradition, are those of St. Justin, Citta di Castello, Foligno, Gubbio, Gualdo Tadino. By ancient tradition, and even today very much, is the craft, which represents an important economic fact and art and culture with the major manufacturers of ceramics are Gualdo Tadino, Deruta, Gubbio, Orvieto and Citta di Castello, those of furniture in the upper valley of the Tiber and Tuderte, those of wrought iron to Gubbio and Orvieto and those of lace in Orvieto and the surrounding Lake Trasimeno. The road links within the region are represented by a network of good roads that facilitate the movement: two are the scroll, the E45, set to Val Tiberina, and the SS75 and 76 bis winding along the Valle Umbra and the Conca del Trasimeno. The Autostrada del Sole and Aeroporto Regional of Sant'Egidio, which is located 12 km from Perugia, the Umbrian region connect with the rest of the country.
